Everything is back to normal in Boracay after a long holiday last week. Normal, but still busy, as it is Boracay Island. On other news, while most of those who are going to spend the Holy Week at their respective homes have already left, new vacationers are coming. Most are families who are enjoying the school vacation. A crowded beach and long lines at the port is the usual scene, this week included. To know more about what to expect if you visit Boracay this week, read on.

Weather: Extreme heat

There will be too much sun this week that sunscreen will surely be needed. The maximum temperature at 32°C is still tolerable though [1]. It can go lower to 28°C on some days, too. With this heat, total hydration is still needed to avoid any heat-related sickness. Fruit shakes and other thirst-quenching drinks are also advisable to remain hydrated. But still, the sun should not spoil a vacation on the island. The sunny weather is actually perfect for water sports activities for the family. Those who do extreme sports can cool off by doing some diving activities.

Travel Updates

Xiamen Airlines reopen direct flight to Kalibo

More tourists from China can be expected in Boracay as Xiamen Airlines has reopened its direct flight between Fuzhou City and the capital town of Kalibo last April 2 [2]. With this development, it is expected that Chinese tourist arrival will continue to soar higher. China already holds the most number of visitors in Boracay overtaking South Koreans. Due to this, more Chinese restaurants started to open on the island after the closure. Other airlines including AirAsia and Philippine Airlines also have direct flights to and from China.

More rooms made available for tourists

More rooms will be available for the tourists of Boracay. In the latest advisory of the Department of Tourism (DOT), there are already 339 accommodation establishments that have complied with the government requirements [3]. All these compliant hotels and resorts offer a total of 12,083 rooms already. Meanwhile, authorities continue to remind the public to only book compliant establishments. The task force in charge of the rehabilitation of the island continues to crackdown against non-compliant establishments. Tourists are also reminded to secure their booking details before traveling to avoid long lines at the port.

Agri-tourism business for Boracay Ati eyed

Agri-tourism projects for the Boracay Ati Tribal Organization is now being developed by the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR). [4] These projects are for the use of the parcel of land that was awarded to them by the government last year. To note, the Boracay Ati were given 3.2064 hectares under the agrarian reform program of the government. The agri-tourism business eyed for them will include vegetable production to supply the resorts on the island. Part of the proposal is also to train the Boracay natives to speak Mandarin and Korean languages for the majority of the tourists of the island.
