Wearing face masks and face shields, practicing proper physical distancing, and washing hands regularly are ways to curb the spread of the coronavirus and fight the pandemic. Apart from these basic health protocols, getting tested for COVID-19 can also help reduce the spread of the virus to your coworkers, friends, and loved ones.

Since the province knows how essential it is to identify cases and offer saliva swab testing, Bohol launched a containerized reverse polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) laboratory at the Bohol Medical Care Institute (BMCI) last August 2020. Located in Tagbilaran City, the said RT-PCR laboratory is capable of running 150 tests within eight hours. Another testing facility is located at Governor Celestino Gallares Memorial Hospital which was also inaugurated in the same month. To offer more services for saliva swab testing, Bohol also has the Philippine Red Cross.

The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) Bohol Chapter in Marapao Street, Poblacion 3, Tagbilaran City, offers saliva testing, which is known to be more affordable and less invasive than traditional swab testing. Patients who want to undergo the Red Cross saliva test must follow the organization’s instructions:

• Patients need to provide their information in the electronic Case Investigation Form (eCIF) at https://c19.redcross.com.ph/public-ecif before heading to the collection site. The retrieval code must be kept and presented to the encoder for verification at the collection site.
• Patients must book an appointment at the collection site through this link: https://fb.com/book/PhilippineRedCrossBohol/. They must also arrive 15 minutes before their schedule.
• Patients should bring one government-issued identification card, a pen, and alcohol and must wear a face mask and a face shield.

The government of Bohol believes that the key to interrupting the spread of coronavirus is through testing. If you have the symptoms or have been in contact with an infected individual, you can head to one of these testing sites to determine if you’ve caught the virus.
