Visitors who fail to follow the proper dress code cannot enter the famous church in Cebu.

If you are a devoted Roman Catholic, chances are you have visited the famous Basilica Minore del Santo Niño on multiple occasions. However, suppose this is your first time visiting this renowned church in Cebu. In that case, some news may interest you: a strict dress code policy will be implemented by October 1, 2024, underscoring the sacredness and respect for this significant place of worship.
The new dress code at the Basilica, replacing the previous practice of providing shawls to individuals arriving in attire considered inappropriate for worship, is an effort to maintain the Basilica's sanctity and solemnity. As a result of this policy, individuals who come in attire that does not meet the dress code will not be granted entry, emphasizing the role of each visitor in respecting the sacred place.
The dress code policy for upper attire prohibits the following: spaghetti straps, tube tops, racerbacks, sleeveless shirts, tank tops, crop tops, or any clothing lacking sleeves. As for lower attire, the policy disallows short skirts, low-waist pants, and ripped jeans. Additionally, the policy prohibits the wearing of caps and hats.

When attending church services, it is recommended that individuals wear collared blouses with sleeves, long dresses with sleeves that reach the knee or longer, knee-length or longer skirts, tops with sleeves and appropriate necklines, polo shirts or collared shirts, t-shirts or long-sleeve shirts, jeans or slacks, and office-appropriate or smart casual attire. Closed-toe shoes or sandals with straps and men wearing closed-toe shoes or slide sandals are accepted.
When visiting the Basilica in Cebu, your attire must comply with the guidelines. Moreover, it is recommended that you only go on Fridays and Sundays if you intend to participate in the liturgical services. This is necessary to be granted entry into the church.
The Basilica Minore del Santo Niño in Cebu is home to the image of the Sto. Niño, the city's patron, is a significant place for prayer and pilgrimage. The 460th Fiesta Señor is four months away and is expected to attract more visitors, underscoring the importance of this Basilica in the religious and cultural life of Cebu.
