National Heroes Day

this week in Manila Heroes Day August 2016

Flag-raising and wreath-laying ceremonies will be held at the Libingan ng mg Bayani (Heroes' Cemetery) on August 29, 8:00 AM for National Heroes Day. President Rodrigo Duterte will lead this commemorative program with the theme, “Bawat Pilipino, Bayaning Katuwang sa Pagbabago.”

The regular holiday is observed to honor the historic Cry of Pugad Lawin by the Katipunan that led to the Philippine Revolution as well as the efforts of all the Filipino heroes, whose names and heroic deeds may be known or unknown.

Rains and thunderstorms by the end of August

The sun will not be visible during the last week of the month. Rain and thunderstorm will still prevail all throughout the week, from morning until evening. Bringing an umbrella and jacket will be best for those who go through the daily commute. Although the first couple of days of September are projected to have better weather, showers and a few thunderstorms are still expected to occur.

The month-long celebration aims to promote, require, and ensure the production of an adequate supply, distribution, use, and acceptance of drugs and medicines identified by their generic name.

DOH urges public to fight harder against dengue

this week in Manila Heroes Day August 2016

According to the data of the Department of Health (DOH), dengue cases in the country during the first half of 2016 is 22.9% higher compared to the first half of 2015. DOH officials thus urge the public to strengthen their precaution in fighting dengue. Simple steps like emptying water containers where mosquitos can lay eggs and attending medical drives and campaigns will be a big help in fighting dengue and other viruses that mosquitos can carry.

The DOH is also doing its part by providing free anti-dengue vaccinations to select schools in Central Luzon, as well as seeking help from the scientific community.

This week, travelers can head to the 27th Philippine Travel Mart which will happen on September 2 to 4 at the SMX Convention Center. The event, hosted by the Philippine Tour Associations (PHILTOA), aims to promote domestic travel services, traditional, new, and emerging destinations and attractions.

Philippine Travel Mart exhibitors will offer various travel bundles on local destinations as well as packages to ASEAN countries including China, Japan, and Korea.

Gemmalyn Crosby Sports Festival 2016

Gemmalyn Crossby Sports Festival will take place on September 3 at the SMX Convention Center.

This September 3, fitness buffs can check out the Gemmalyn Crosby Sports Festival 2016, which will take place at the SMX Convention Center. Gemmalyn Crosby is the first and only Filipina in the International Federation of Bodybuilding and the founder of the Gemmalyn Crosby Sports Festival.

Crosby, together with the Philippine Fitness & Wellness Expo, will bring various sports and fitness activities for the public to compete in and enjoy. The event will include a Zumba fitness party, yoga class, table tennis match, and a workshop plus Q & A from fitness experts. Tickets start at PhP150 for general admission.
