Christmas is a time for family reunions, and you know what family means in the Philippines. Family extends from grandparents, aunts and uncles, and cousins to new members of the family such as in-laws. Relatives come home to their provinces, others fly back from overseas just to spend special moments with their kin. Christmas is such a happy time that almost everyone takes the opportunity to plan something with the family.

A reunion can simply be a get-together in the family home. Some families reserve a function room or a big table in a restaurant. Those who crave more adventure head out to the beach and rent a whole beach house or a big room for the clan.

However you prefer your Christmas family reunion to be, the important thing to do is is to plan early. ShoppersGuide gives you a short list of possible venues for your family party. Three of our suggestions are out of town and one is a wonderful restaurant located in Quezon City. Take your pick!

Casa Amara (Batangas)

Casa Amara gives guests a spectacular view of the sea and forest.

Located in San Juan, Batangas, Casa Amara offers a fantastic view of the sea, magnificently decorated bedrooms, a beautiful swimming pool, lovely beach where you can snorkel and swim, and sumptuous food that your family will definitely like. If your group has 12 to 15 people, you can rent the penthouse, which has its own living room, dining room, kitchen, and two bedrooms. For bigger groups, the main house has a huge living room, a dining room, and eight bedrooms.

The owner, with the help of an interior designer, has prepared the houses and the rooms for Christmas. “The look is European,” she says, “I always wanted to recreate the German countryside and the Alps inside Casa Amara.” Check out their Facebook page and send them a message for your inquiry or booking.

Salu (Quezon City)

Get together with your clan and feast over Filipino favorites from all over the archipelago at Salu.

If you are thinking of choosing a restaurant in Quezon City, consider Salu. Owned by the family of husband-and-wife Romnick Sarmenta and Harlene Bautista, Salu offers authentic Filipino dishes, with a twist. They offer representative dishes from many of our 7,107 Philippine islands.

Buffet is at P700 every Sunday, or you can reserve a section of their huge dining place for your group. Located at 26 Scout Torillo in Quezon City, Salu is open from 11:00 AM to 11:00 PM.

Cafe Nenzo (Bulacan)

Cafe Nenzo has separate areas for intimate gatherings. If your group is big, the main dining area may be reserved for your function.

For those who are living north of Manila, consider Café Nenzo. Located on the ground floor of Esperanza Mall along McArthur Highway in Meycauayan, Bulacan, it is a multi-cuisine restaurant (with a vegetarian menu). They also have a smaller branch in Quezon City but it may not be ideal for a family reunion because of its size. The space in Bulacan, however, offers two function rooms: one big enough for family reunions and a smaller room for more intimate gatherings.

You can also try to reserve the entire place if your clan is really huge. Café Nenzo is open from 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM. You can inquire regarding your holiday reservation through (044) 3230182 or 0906-2332233.

Lucia's Bed and Breakfast (Baguio City)

Lucia’s BnB has a room called Laugh. It has 1 king-sized bed and one single bed with a pull-out, and can accommodate up to four people.

A garden BnB in Baguio City, Lucia’s Bed and Breakfast is becoming known for its hearty, healthy breakfasts. Located at 7 Navy Base Road Extension, they serve breakfast that is made from scratch—“from the bread down to the mayonnaise we use for our salad dressing.”Instead of using preservatives and MSG to enhance flavor, they use fresh herbs and spices.

For your Christmas get-together, you can reserve the entire garden floor for P16,800/night (based on their Facebook page) for around 17 guests, or the whole upper floor for P15,000/night for around 10 guests. These rates include breakfast for everyone. To reserve or inquire, contact Lucia's BnB through their Facebook page.

Many places have already been booked for the holidays, so if you are tasked to find a venue for your family reunion, better to make a reservation ASAP.
