Many Filipinos say that there’s only two seasons in the Philippines: hot and hotter. Although that isn’t true at all, summer time in the Philippines does bring a different kind of heat that makes us lose our minds.

The best remedy, of course, is a tall glass of your favorite Filipino beverage. To make your summer more bearable, we gathered some of the most unique drinks in the Metro that are not just thirst-quenchers but eye candies as well! Read on and see if some of these unique drinks suit your taste.

Chemistea rose to popularity due to its unique concept of serving beverages in flasks and beakers. But aside from the quirky presentation, it was its drinks that truly made an impression. Chemistea serves house-blended teas that come from all over Asia, from Thailand’s Cha Yen to India’s Masala Chai.

The place is also known for its drinkable cake concoctions, such as the Red Velvet and Black Forest drinks. But the most unique drink here is the one you yourself make. Yes, Chemistea allows their customers to be “scienteasts” and create their own blend. You can adjust the strength and sweetness of your drinks or add as many toppings as you want!

How to get there: From EDSA, you can ride buses going to Novaliches. Ask to be dropped off at Congressional Avenue and walk towards Shorthorn Street until you reach Chemistea.


2. Sun-Drenched Iced Teas by Chelsea Kitchen

Known for its feel-good food, Chelsea Kitchen may not be known specifically for its drinks, but the restaurant does serve a unique thirst-quencher perfect for summer.

Its Sun-drenched Iced Teas (PhP195) is as refreshing and vibrant as it gets with bright hues that come in three flavors: Strawberry Lemon, Almond Lychee, and Peach Mint. Aside from the combination of flavors, Chelsea Kitchen gets their tea from Harney and Sons, a tea company in America that provides teas to establishments like the Four Seasons Hotel!

How to get there: SM Megamall is accessible via EDSA. Ride a bus that passes through EDSA and ask to be dropped off at SM Megamall. You can also reach the mall by riding the MRT Line 3 and alighting at Ortigas Station. From Ortigas Station you can walk towards SM Megamall.


3. Blackberry Coffee by Caravan Black

Residents and frequenters of Bonifacio Global City have probably passed by Caravan Black at least once or twice. The third-wave neighborhood coffee joint is a favorite by many for its relaxing ambience, all-day breakfast meals, and, of course, its coffee.

But more than the usual caffeinated drinks, what sets Caravan Black apart from other coffee shops are its unique concoctions. One drink to try is its Blackberry Coffee (PhP165). If you’re tired of the usual cup of joe to wake you up, Blackberry Coffee is made with house-made blackberry reduction, cold brew coffee, and soda water that will give you the sweet satisfying jolt that you need.

How to get there: From EDSA you can ride a bus or the MRT Line 3 and alight at Ayala Station. From Ayala Station you can ride the BGC buses that will pass through Net One bus stop. From there you can walk towards 4th Avenue and look for Caravan Black.

BluGré Coffee opened its first store in Manila just last year, but it has actually been a well-known coffee shop in the province of Davao since 1998. One drink that made this joint popular in particular is its Durian Coffeeccino (starts at PhP150).

BluGré’s Durian Coffeeccino is a hot cappuccino drink that features espresso mixed with durian, a fruit popular in Davao. The interesting mix will definitely awaken your spirit and your taste buds as well. Aside from durian-infused drinks, they also have an extensive menu that consists of pasta, pastries, sandwiches, and more.

How to get there:

Malacanang Complex. To reach Malacanang Complex, from EDSA you can ride the LRT Line 2 in Cubao and alight at Pureza Station. From Pureza Station you can take a taxi towards Malacanang Complex.

Market North Tower. To reach Market North Tower, from EDSA you can ride buses or take the MRT Line 3 and alight at Ayala Station. From Ayala Station you can ride the BGC buses that will pass through One Parkade bus stop. From there you can walk towards 26th Street until you reach Market North Tower.

Manila East. To go to Manila East, from EDSA you can ride buses or the MRT Line 3 and alight at Ortigas Station. From there, walk towards Robinsons Galleria and ride the G-Liner buses going to Taytay Rizal. Ask to be dropped off at Jollibee Taytay and walk towards or ride jeepneys going to Manila East.


5. Bulletproof® Coffee by Cafe 2.0

Café 2.0 serves healthy, paleo-centric meals perfect for people who follow this diet or even those who just want to try a healthy change in their eating habits. Aside from its dishes, the café also has a unique but healthy drink for fitness enthusiasts called Bulletproof® Coffee (PhP175).

Another iced tea that made it to our list of unique drinks are the iced teas by Florabel . Florabel, owned by renowned Chef Florabel Co-Yatco, is a fine dining restaurant located in Estancia Mall that serves Filipino and continental cuisine.

Although the drink is simply called iced tea, it’s so much more than a cold beverage. Florabel’s version is topped with a sorbet that slowly melts and mixes with the iced tea as you drink it. The iced teas come in two flavors: Passion Fruit House Tea (PhP195) and Iced Mint Tea (PhP185).

How to get there: From EDSA you can ride buses or the MRT Line 3 and alight at Shaw Boulevard. From there you can ride a taxi to Estancia Mall.

Wildflour Café + Bakery became famous for its rustic and relaxed vibe and its wide array of pastries, from simple loafs to sumptuous cronuts. Wildflour is an advocate of organic farming, so they use the best ingredients sourced from local farmers for their meals and drinks. Aside from their offering of savory dishes, don’t forget to check Wildflour’s selection of drinks as well.

To cool you off this summer, you can try their Green Smoothie (PhP250). The drink is made of banana, pineapple, and moringa; made creamy with almond milk; and sweetened with honey.

Net Lima Building. From EDSA you can ride buses or take the MRT Line 3 and alight at Ayala Station. From Ayala Station you can ride the BGC buses that will pass through One Parkade bus stop. From there you can walk towards 26th Street until you reach Net Lima Building.

The Podium Mall. Ride a bus that will go through EDSA and ask to be dropped off at SM Megamall. You can also reach the mall via MRT Line 3 and alight at Ortigas Station. From Ortigas Station you can walk towards The Podium.

Salcedo Village. From EDSA ride a bus or MRT Line 3 and alight at Ayala Station. From Ayala Station, ride jeepneys with “Ayala-Washington” routes and ask to be dropped off at PBCom Tower. From there, walk towards Rufino Street and turn right once you reach LP Leviste Street. Walk until you reach UG38 Alfaro Place.

Greenhills Shopping Center. From EDSA, ride a bus or MRT Line 3 and alight at Santolan Station. From Santolan Station, walk towards Annapolis Street and ride jeepneys going to Greenhills Shopping Center.




8. S’mores Mocha by Bean & Yolk

Bean & Yolk prides themselves in two things: coffee and egg. When you visit their café in Bel-Air, you’ll be welcomed with a simple menu that features the humble egg in most of their savory dishes. Their drink selection is also concise, offering few but great drinks that are perfect pairings for their egg-centric meals.

One of the must-tries at Bean & Yolk is their S’mores Mocha (PhP175). The simple-looking drink is anything but as it is made with espresso and Malagos dark chocolate topped with frothed fresh milk and a nicely charred marshmallow. It’s a uniquely sinful drink that will surely perk you up.

How to get there: From EDSA ride bus or MRT Line 3 and alight at Buendia Station. Ride a jeep with the sign “Bel-Air-Washington” and ask to be dropped off at your destination.
