Lately, unlimited grill restaurants are all the rage in Manila with the rise of samgyupsal (grilled pork belly) places due to the popularity of Korean dramas in the country. As the first unlimited deep frying in the country, Osakatsu offers the same experience of cooking your own food at the table while veering from the usual grill restaurants. Japanese restaurant Ooma branched out to create this hole-in-the-wall sushi bar. From the design of the tables, chairs, and lanterns, it’s easy to see that the interior of Ooma Sushi Bar is inspired by the Tsukiji fish market at Tokyo, which is known for the fresh fish and other Japanese goods it offers. This new sushi bar serves assorted maki (roasted seaweed rolled sushi) and aburi style sushi (sushi with partially grilled fish on top). The menu also features old favorites from the original Ooma restaurant with additions of new items to wow regular patrons of the restaurant.


3. Shawa Wama

If you want to experience Milan and all its popular cuisines, you don’t have to book a flight to Italy because Whitebrass Contemporary Kitchen And Bar offers food from the Milano-Lombardi region. Some of its offerings include focaccia (flat oven-baked Italian bread) for PhP280, pork jowl bowl for PhP199, quatro formaggi* (four cheese pizza) for PhP350, and porchetta (boneless pork roast) for PhP400. Although the food alone is enough to transport you to Italy, the Milan-inspired interiors of the restaurant also add to the Italian vibe.

The restaurant definitely is not lacking in terms of aesthetic, and it also delivers meals you can chow down after chugging a beer or two. But since it’s not a great idea to drink on an empty stomach, take a pick among dishes such as fish and chips (PhP325), Zen chicken nuggets (PhP250), ultimate nachos (PhP275), and mighty Caesar (PhP255) before filling your system with alcohol.

Sights of swimming jelly fish and fine dining don’t come together, but Antidote tried it out and succeeded. The rooftop bar and restaurant is clad with aquariums full of jellyfish, and after you’ve marveled enough at the fascinating sea creatures, you can turn your head to the other side to see the Manila skyline. Besides sampling fine liquors crafted by skilled bartenders, you can also feast on appealing and satisfying meals such as the Antidote Anti-Pasti (three for PhP900, five for PhP1,500), dragon nigiri brulee (torched wasabi shrimp with mangoes, costs about PhP320), and Gambas Prawns (PhP320).

While Wantusawa might not feature over-the-top interiors like the other items on this list, the humble and minimalist restaurant banks on the promise of good food. The oysters used in the restaurant were farmed in Aklan and can be cooked in different ways. You can have them baked, grilled, or fried for PhP50 a piece. Other dishes in the menu include oyster chowder (PhP250), sriracha fried chicken (PhP200), and baked scallops with bacon and mushrooms (PhP240).


8. Ebi 10

Since a sushi bar has already been featured, another Japanese dish is taking the center stage. If you’re not a fan of sushi and are more into deep-fried goodies such as tempura, then consider trying Ebi 10 on your next food trip. There’s a ton of tempura variants in the menu like Kani tempura (crab tempura, PhP30/piece), stuffed mushroom (PhP30/piece), and sweet potato (PhP20/piece). To accompany the deep fried tempuras are other Japanese food favorites such as gyoza (pan-fried dumplings, PhP130/pieces) and pork tonkatsu (pork cutlet, PhP120).

With its rustic charm, it has become a hot spot for inuman (drinking) sessions among friends and colleagues. Few of the dishes served at Lumu are Filipino foods like kare-kare with choco bagoong (savory peanut stew) for PhP399, crispy bagnet (deep fried crispy pork belly) for PhP345, and chicken inasal (chargrilled chicken) for PhP780. You can also complement these savory food with premium cocktail and beers available at their bar.
