Shopping is an enjoyable and possibly addicting activity: not only will you get a dose of dopamine, the feel-good chemical, you also get to expand your wardrobe and buy new items for your home. What’s more, you also burn a few calories along the way! And since Metro Manila is teeming with malls and shops, you have a lot of options to choose from.

But just like anything else in the world, shopping requires some excitement and variety to keep it fun and thrilling. Fortunately, the city offers a slew of major malls that offer both affordable finds and deluxe buys, as well as varied dining spots and entertainment options. Check out some of the most famous major malls in Metro Manila where you can roam around all day!


1. TriNoma

TriNoma, which opened in 2007, is owned by one of the country’s largest property development firms, Ayala Land. The mall stands on a total of 20 hectares of land and is composed of four main levels. Getting here is easy as it is conveniently connected to the North Avenue Station of the MRT-3 line. It offers a number of stores to choose from, including home-grown stores like Folded & Hung, Kamiseta, and Genevieve Gozum to international brands like Gap, Giordano, Aldo, and Zara. For affordable shopping, it also houses Landmark Department Store where you can find cheap fashion apparel, home essentials, and more.

Aside from its numerous stores and restaurants, what separates TriNoma from other malls are its waterfall features and alfresco gardens. On top of the mall sits Trinoma Park, a one-hectare garden area that features restaurants and a stage for live shows.


2. SM Mall of Asia

Address: J.W. Diokno Boulevard, Mall of Asia Complex, Pasay City

SM Mall of Asia, commonly known as MOA, covers so much land area that exploring the entire mall in just one day might prove to be a challenge. The mall has a total of four buildings: the Main Mall, Entertainment Mall, and the North and South Parking buildings which house not only unique food chains like Biker’s Café and Tajimaya, but also entertainment features.

Some of these features include an Olympic-sized skating rink and an indoor arena which can accommodate up to 20,000 people. MOA is also best known for its seaside feature overlooking Manila Bay where spectacular fireworks shows and pyrotechnic competitions are sometimes held.




3. Greenhills Shopping Center

Greenhills Shopping Center is probably most famous for its tiangge (bazaar) where you can find things like South Sea pearls, Class A shoes, and cheap gadgets. However, this area is just one of the numerous parts of the complex. Greenhills Shopping Center also houses V-Mall (formerly Virra Mall), where electronics and gadgets are the specialty; Promenade, where a cinema and various restaurants can be found; G Strip, where bars and specialty stores are located; and ShoppesVille, where clothes-shopping is the main thing to do.

In addition to these, Greenhills Shopping Center also houses Bridgeway Shops, Greenlanes Arcade, Lifestyle Center, O Square 2, Shoppesville Plus, The Jewellery, Theatre Mall, Unimart Building, where you can shop, watch movies, and more.




4. Shangri-La Plaza

Shangri-La Plaza, usually referred to as Shang, offers an upscale and luxurious shopping and dining experience. It houses over 300 brands, including high-end international names like Gucci, Armani Exchange, and Ralph Lauren, and cafés and restaurants like TWG, Toby’s Estate, Cibo Nuovo, and Ikkoryu Fukuoka Ramen. They also offer valet parking services for those who want to go straight into a shopping spree. Those who will use public transportation will also find it very accessible as it is connected to the northbound side of MRT’s Shaw Boulevard Station.

The mall is operated by Kuok Group of Companies, the same group which owns the worldwide chain of Shangri-La hotels and restaurants, and it is directly connected to EDSA Shangri-La Hotel and The St. Francis Shangri-La Place.


5. SM City North EDSA

Address: EDSA corner North Avenue, Misamis Street, Barangay Bago Bantay, Quezon City
Operating hours: Monday to Sunday, 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM

Covering a total retail area of 5,360,000 square feet, SM City North EDSA is hailed as the biggest mall in the country. Aside from local brands like Lagalag, Bayo, Jewels, and Unica Hija, the mall also carries international brands like Bobbi Brown, Charles and Keith, Fossil, Clarks, and Le Jean De Marithe Francois Girbaud.


6. SM Aura Premier

SM Aura Premier boasts an elegant and extravagant architectural design, making it stand out from the rest of the shopping establishments in the area. This was exactly the intention of the mall’s designers, EDGE Interior Designers and Arquitectonica. SM Aura Premier offers high-end shopping where brands like Oakley, Vero Moda, Bershka, Perry Ellis, and American Eagle Outfitters can be found.

Besides its intriguing architecture and impressive store offerings, SM Aura Premier is also home to Samsung Hall. Located at the mall’s fifth floor, this dome-shaped event space has a total area of 1,700 square meters and can easily accommodate up to 1,000 guests. All kinds of events can be and are held here, from expos, concerts, fashion shows, to private functions.


7. Festival Mall Alabang

Address: Filinvest City, Alabang, Muntinlupa City

Festival Mall Alabang, located Filinvest City (previously known as Filinvest Corporate City) is one of the go-to shopping places in the South of Metro Manila. The mall offers the usual shopping-dining-entertainment experience and features popular brands like Levi’s, Guess, Mossimo, and Petit Monde can be found within the area. The special features that Festival Mall Alabang holds against its competitors are its River Park and Water Garden.

River Park, which opened in 2014, is a place for outdoor activities such as jogging and biking. It has a total area of 2,300 square meters and has lush green surroundings. Two years later after River Park opened, the Water Garden was launched. The place offers dining, shopping, and entertainment options.
