As the saying goes, "learning doesn't stop in the classroom," and sure enough we continue to learn in many ways. One way we can get new knowledge is attending seminars, exhibits and expos. The good news is that this August 2018, there are plenty of informative expositions and exhibitions in Metro Manila where can improve your skills and enrich your mind.

The scope of these said events range from the mainstream technology and beauty, to profession and lifestyle-related fairs. If you’re curious about what expos would be in store for you this month, check out the items below to see which would pique your interest!


1. Signs and Media World Expo

When: August 16 to 18, 2018
Where: SMX Convention Center

The Signs and Media World Expo is incorporated with the Systems Integration Philippines (SIP) which is regarded as one of the leading technology expos in the Philippines.



Marketing and advertising professionals can get new ideas and hone their skills through the Signs and Media World Expo. The event links up several outstanding advertising brands from across Asia so that they could share ideas and exhibit products and services. Those that will showcase their products hail from various industries such as computer graphic design, digital marketing, digital advertising, street signs, search engine optimization, newspaper and magazines, billboards, and so on.

How to get to SMX Convention Center: Ride the MRT-3 and get off at Taft Avenue station. Exit the station and ride a jeepney heading to SM Mall of Asia. Upon arriving at the Mall of Asia, look for the eye-shaped building. That is the Convention Center.


2. IOT Summit Philippines 2018

The two-day conference will have a conference, exhibition, and a workshop.



Digital transformation of the technology industry would be the highlight of this year’s Internet of Things (IoT) Summit. Pioneers and tech experts would weigh in on talks about the current innovations in the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI), blockchain, healthcare, connected industries, wearables, and the like. There would be booths that will showcase products of companies in the area of robotics, cyber security, financial institution, smart home, and other hardwares and softwares.

A pre-event workshop on learning advanced electronics and machine learning will also be held. This would be useful for those who are working in tech companies. Tickets are available at the IoT summit website.

How to get to Megatrade Hall: Ride the MRT-3 then drop off at the Shaw Boulevard station. Head towards the direction of Shangri-La mall, and walk towards SM Megamall which is just a few meters away. The Megatrade Hall is on the fifth floor of the mall.


3. Sportbizcon 2018 (International Sport Business Convergence)

When: August 18-19, 2018 at 11:00AM

Attention, sports fans! Here’s an event you might want to check-out. The Sportbizcon is a two-day event which brings together sports enthusiasts, entrepreneurs, athletes, and academe together for a special series of workshops, talks, and tradeshows.

A sports convention won’t be complete without including actual sports or physical activities, so included in the event highlight would be the Athletes vs Athletes wherein athletes can challenge their fellow athletes on a few recreational sports. The fun doesn’t stop there as fans can also challenge their idols. If you’re not athletic and just want to mingle with famous athletes, there’s a paid fanmeet as well. If you got extra money to blow and want to own a piece of sports history, why not try to participate at the auction that will happen at the event?


4. Sikat Pinoy – National Trade Fair

When: August 22-26, 2018
Where: Megatrade Hall

The products to be showcased at the event will come from different provinces and regions in the country.



One of the traits Filipinos are known for is creativity. From woodworks to food, Filipinos can craft world class items made from even the simplest materials. If you’re curious about what these items are, you can visit the Sikat Pinoy National Fair wherein locally-made products from the furniture, health and wellness, processed food, garments, and home furnishings industries will be showcased and up for sale.

The event is a project of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and Bureau of Domestic Trade Promotion (BDTP). The organizers aim is to encourage Filipinos to support local, micro, and medium industries. Sikat Pinoy have previously organized fairs promoting Filipino products during the past months like the National Arts & Crafts Fair, which was also held at the Megatrade Hall.

5. Cosmopolitan Beauty Block

Cosmopolitan Beauty Block is organized by the Philippine version of Cosmopolitan Magazine.



If you’re into free makeovers, meeting celebrities and social media influencers, and getting freebies, then here’s an event for you. The Cosmopolitan Beauty Block is back and will continue to be full of everything related to all things makeup, skincare, and hair. The event also improved its location, with this year’s edition taking place in a much bigger venue compared to last year’s Mega Atrium—which means that more beauty enthusiasts would be accommodated and more booths would be inside.

With the list of guest speakers and celebrities still under wraps, it’s no secret that there would be booths filled with the newest and hottest makeup and skin care products. Workshops for beauty junkies and amateur makeup artists alike will also be available for those who want to hone their skills.

6. The Freelancer Fair 2018

The Freelance Fair is the biggest fair for freelancers in the country.



You can improve and level up your skills as a freelancer through the series of workshops at the Freelancer Fair: Up Your Game happening on August 25 at Metrotent, Metrowalk Commercial Complex. The few things that can be expected from this annual event would be seminars and motivational talks from successful freelancers from different fields such as creatives, business, finance, and others. Freelancers can also mingle with their fellow freelancers, which can give them opportunity to establish friendships and professional connections.

With this year’s theme, Up Your Game, attendees can expect several tips, strategies, and techniques applicable in finding or improving their work.

How to get to Metrotent: Take the MRT and drop off at Ortigas station. Head to SM Megamall and ride a jeepney or UV Express heading to Robinson’s Galleria. While at Robinson’s Galleria, ride a jeep heading to Rosario and ask the driver to drop you off at Meralco Ave. It is near the Home Depot. Metrowalk is in front of Marco Polo Hotel. The Metrotent is within the area.


7. Mom and Baby Fair

When: August 25, 2018
Where: VRP Medical Center, Mandaluyong
Prices: Free Admission

The Mom & Baby Fair is open to pregnant women and all mothers.



There’s more to August than just Buwan ng Wika (Month of Language). August is also regarded as the World Breastfeeding Awareness Month. To commemorate this event would be the Mom & Baby Fair highlighting the importance breastfeeding through classes for new mothers and even those who already have children of their own.

Of course, this event won’t be an all work and no play as mothers would get more treats with exhibits and booths that feature items related to breastfeeding and motherhood. To cap all the excitement would be a Zumba class which is open to all attendees. Gifts and raffle prizes are also up for grabs.

How to get to VRP Medical Center: Ride the MRT-3 and get off at Shaw Boulevard station. From the station, ride a bus heading to Southbound EDSA. Get off at VRP, it’s besides a Petron gas station.


Tips for ticket purchasing and watching:


  • To be updated on sudden or last minute changes and announcements, follow the social media pages of the event or the venue.
  • To avoid being scammed, purchase tickets from official distributors and listed partners.
  • Try to check if the event offers discounts for students, PWDs, and senior citizens.
  • Follow the rules and regulations of the venue and check what is allowed and prohibited.
  • Before bringing children at the event, check with the venue first if they allow children. If you do bring your kids, keep an eye on them during the event.
  • Since Metro Manila traffic is unpredictable at many times, adjust your travel time by allocating an extra hour.
  • Try to arrive at the venue early to get a nice parking space.
  • Keep an eye on your personal belongings at all times at the event.
