Market Price Watch in Manila (December 4, 2018)

Check the prices of goods before your weekly trip to Balintawak Market.

For the first week of November, Yoorekka visited Balintawak Public Market along Old Samson Road and EDSA in Quezon City to check the availability of common goods with their corresponding prices. The following is an updated list of basic commodities in the market such as rice, seasoning, meat, produce, and canned goods.


Rice

One kilogram of Sinandomeng rice sells at PhP52. Meanwhile, malagkit rice sells for PhP55 per kilo.

NFA rice is currently not available at Balintawak Public Market.


Sugar, Salt, Pepper

Brown sugar sells for PhP38/kg while white sugar sells for PhP54/kg. Rock salt goes for PhP10/kg while whole black pepper comes in pre-packaged packets at PhP5 each.


Fish, Meat, Poultry

Tilapia at Balintawak Public Market sells for PhP100/kg. Meanwhile, galunggong is priced at PhP130/kg and bangus is at PhP180/kg.

Pork in cubes, or more popularly known as adobo cut, is at PhP190/kg. Beef, on the other hand, is at PhP350/kg while processed ham is at PhP35/250g.

Meanwhile, one kilogram of chicken is at PhP125/kg. Eggs are sold by the tray, with each containing 30 eggs. One tray of small eggs sells for PhP135 while one tray of medium eggs sells for PhP144.


Vegetables

The prices of available vegetables at Balintawak Public Market are as follows: red onion, PhP50/kg; white onion, 50/kg; garlic, PhP70/kg; tomatoes, PhP50/kg; siling labuyo, PhP350/kg; potatoes, PhP70/kg; carrots, PhP40/kg; pechay, PhP40/kg; kangkong, PhP130/bundle; and cabbage, PhP40/kg.


Fruits

One kilogram of banana is sold at PhP40/kg. Apples and oranges are sold per piece with for PhP25 each.


Canned goods

The following are the cheapest noted prices for canned goods (prices may vary depending on brand): one can of tuna, PhP29/155g; corned beef, PhP49/155g; sardines, PhP17/155g; and meatloaf, PhP19/155g.
