This week begins with a long weekend in the Philippines as the commemoration of the EDSA People Power Revolution’s 33rd anniversary happens on Monday, February 25. The day is celebrated as a public holiday, which means there would be no work or school. Expect road closures to make way for protests on this day. Meanwhile, the holiday won’t affect the planned closure of the Tandang Sora Intersection in Commonwealth, Quezon City. For the full details of this week’s Metro Manila news, read on.

Weather: Good weather to last the whole week

Manila’s sunny weather will continue this week. There would be low chances of rain and the days would remain clear and dry. Take advantage of the good weather by going outside and participating in outdoor activities. But before heading out, make sure to wear sunscreen since the day temperature for the week will range from 31 °C to 33 °C. Since the winds can be cold especially in the morning, don’t forget your cardigan or jacket. Monitor the news to be updated on changes in the weather situation [1].

Traffic News

Closure of Tandang Sora Intersection will start on the 23rd

Starting February 23, the Tandang Sora Intersection in Commonwealth Avenue will be closed to the public [2]. This is due to the demolition of the Tandang Sora Flyover to make way for the MRT-7. The closure will start from 11:00 PM onwards. Since it is expected to affect thousands of motorists at the area, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) has given some alternative routes.

Motorists going to Katipunan Avenue from Tandang Sora can take a U-Turn to Commonwealth Avenue eastbound heading to Fairview. Then from there, they can take a right turn at Katipunan Avenue. Meanwhile, motorists going to Tandang Sora from Katipunan Avenue can take a right turn at Commonwealth Avenue, followed by a U-turn to Commonwealth Avenue westbound in the direction of the Quezon City Circle. From there, they can turn right at Tandang Sora Avenue.

Road closures for the EDSA People Power celebration

Since protests are expected to occur on the EDSA People Power anniversary, motorists and tourists who do not wish to take part should avoid the usual venues for rallies: EDSA Shrine, People Power Monument, and Mendiola. Announcements of official road closures for this year’s celebration are yet to be given. [3]
