This May, the Manila concert scene will be filled with exciting musical acts.


We’re not even in the middle of the year yet but the list of amazing performers coming to Metro Manila is already astounding! With a diverse roster of artists holding their concerts in Metro Manila this May 2019, an exciting summer is definitely ahead. This month in particular has great upcoming concerts in store for versatile music lovers. Some of the highly anticipated acts are sweet balladeer Jason Mraz and American rock band Thrice. Besides international artists, the OPM scene will also showcase talented artists such as Erik Santos and Yeng Constantino, Zsa Zsa Padilla, and Rita Daniela and Ken Chan this month. 1. Mayday Parade Welcome To Sunnyland Philippine Tour In Manila

Back in 2017, American rock band Mayday Parade celebrated their 10th year anniversary in Manila through their A Lessons in Romantics tour. Now, the band will be back in the country for their Welcome to Sunnyland tour. The tour is named after their most recent album, Sunnyland. Some of the songs to expect during the concert are Mayday Parade classics such as “Terrible Things” and new hits such as “Never Sure.” The band will also hold a show in Cebu. How to get there: Take either the LRT-2 or MRT-3 then alight at the Araneta Center Cubao Station. Exit the station then walk along Aurora Boulevard. From there, take a turn to General Aguinaldo Avenue on the right side. Turn left and you’ll see the New Frontier Theatre.



2. Jason Mraz Live In Manila

Experience nothing but positive energy in Jason Mraz’s Good Vibes show in Manila. This is going to be the “Lucky” singer’s third visit to Manila, with his first visit in 2013 and his most recent in 2014. Jason Mraz is an award-winning singer behind hits such as “The Remedy,” “I’m Yours,” “I Won’t Give Up,” and “You and I Both.” Known for his upbeat and calming sound, Jason Mraz gathered fans all over the world with his unique style. His Manila concert will be the first show in his six-city tour of Asia. He will also perform in Shanghai, Singapore, Hong Kong, Bangkok, and Taipei. How to get there: Ride the MRT-3 up to Taft Avenue Station. Exit the station and look for a jeepney or shuttle heading to SM Mall of Asia. Alight the jeepney at the Mall of Asia Complex. The eye-shaped building is the Mall of Asia Arena.


3. My Special Love #BoBrey inConcert

GMA’s recently concluded series My Special Tatay produced the reel tandem of Ken Chan and Rita Daniela. The duo, known together as “BoBrey,” was an unexpected hit and their love team has amassed fans when their show aired. As a form of appreciation for their growing fan base, they will be holding a special concert where they will serenade the audience with their song “Almusal” (Breakfast) as well as various covers. Before being part of the duo, Rita Daniela used to perform on stage theaters while Ken Chan showcased his singing skills by performing covers and some original songs. How to get there: Ride the MRT-3 and alight at Ortigas Station. Leave the station via the northbound exit then walk towards Robinsons Galleria. From Galleria, cross the road and wait for a G Liner bus en route to Quiapo. Ask the conductor to drop you off at Greenhills Shopping Center. From Greenhills, walk to the Music Museum. It is located beside the Promenade Mall.


4. Totally Zsa Zsa

In her three decades in show business, Zsa Zsa Padilla is considered as one of the Philippine’s premiere songstresses. With hits such as “Hiram” (Borrow) and “We’re All Alone,” she has proven to be one talented performer. For her Mother’s Day concert, Zsa Zsa Padilla promised something new to her fans. Not only will she perform in various decades-themed costumes, but she will also be adding twists to classic tunes from the 1950s and 1960s. Joining her on stage as special guests would be her daughter Karylle, Pinoy Big Brother alum Zeus Collins, and Ian Veneracion. Tickets are available at Ticketworld outlets and Ticketworld online.

How to get there: Ride the MRT and alight at Taft Avenue Station. Exit along the northbound side and turn left, where you will see McDonald’s. Enter the passageway near the chain, where you will find white Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal (NAIA) 3 loop shuttles. Ride it and then get off at Resorts World Manila. Go to the second floor of Newport Mall. The Newport Performing Arts Theater is located there.



5. Lauv Asia Tour 2019

With his soothing voice and charismatic looks, it’s impossible not to love Lauv. Known for his feel good song “I Like Me Better,” the American singer-songwriter will come back to Philippines for a major solo concert after headlining in Wanderland Music Festival last year. His fans can expect to hear his chart-topping hits such as “Paris in the Rain,” “Chasing Fire,” “There’s No Way,” and “I’m so tired.” Meanwhile, for those in Cebu, good news: Lauv will also hold a show at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel. How to get there: Take an LRT-2 train and alight at the Araneta Center-Cubao Terminal Station. Exit the station and walk in the direction of Gateway Mall and pass through the red gate. Araneta Coliseum is near Farmers Market. It is the dome-shaped building.

6. Extraordinary Erik Santos and Yeng Constantino

Erik Santos and Yeng Constantino have many things in common: both were winners of talent shows and both of them have held their careers in the industry for over 10 years. The two powerhouse vocalists will come together for a one-night-only concert at Resorts World Manila. Over the years, Erik and Yeng have become hit-makers in the local music industry. Some of Erik Santos’s popular songs include his renditions of “I’ll Never Go,” “Say You’ll Never Go,” and “My Love is Here.” Meanwhile, Yeng Constantino is behind catchy tunes such as “Hawak Kamay,” (Holding Hands), “Jeepney Love Story,” and “Ikaw” (You). 7. Thrice Live In Manila

After 20 years of performing, American rock band Thrice will finally have their first show in Manila. The legendary band is currently on tour to promote their latest studio album entitled Palms and Manila is one of the stopovers. Filipino rock fans will finally get to hear the live versions of Thrice’s smash hits such as “Black Honey,” “Hurricane,” “Stare At The Sun,” and “Only Us.” With a reputation for being one of the most experimental bands, the group has dabbled in post-hardcore and alternative sounds over the years. Their latest album debuted at number one in the US Billboard Top Hard Rock albums and US Billboard Independent Albums. Tickets are available at Ticketnet outlets and Ticketnet online.

How to get there: Ride any MRT-3 then get off at the North Avenue Station. Since the station is directly linked to Trinoma, you can use the connecting bridge way between Trinoma and SM North EDSA. The SM Skydome is the visible dome-shaped building at the area.


Tips for purchasing tickets and watching the show:

• Never buy from unofficial ticket distributors. Beware of scalpers since they tend to sell overpriced tickets.
• If you’re going with a large group, check if there’s a bundle promo. Also make sure to check the rules about bulk purchases.
• Monitor the social media pages of the event, venue, organizers, and artist for last-minute reminders, cancellations, and latest updates.
• If the show doesn’t have reserved seating, check when the gates open and make sure to arrive as early as you can to get the best seats. However, if the show has assigned seating, practice common courtesy and don’t take someone else’s seat.
• Follow the rules and regulations of the venue. Make sure to check the dress code as well.
• To avoid being a victim of pickpockets and thieves, always keep your personal belongings close to you at all times.
