After being stuck at home for months, it’s no surprise that most of us want to escape to somewhere beautiful. Besides curing cabin fever, some look forward to traveling to satisfy their wanderlust. The good news is that you don’t have to go far: local tourist havens such as Palawan are starting to reopen to travelers to restart tourism in the area.

Astoria Palawan is a spacious resort that features one of the rarest tourist attractions in Palawan: the first and only waterpark in Puerto Princesa City. It is also one of the hotels and resorts that met the Department of Tourism’s (DOT) requirements for reopening. The hotel's entire vicinity is thoroughly sanitized and disinfected to prepare for guests. Currently, they are accepting local tourists, Palawan residents, and non-Palawan residents.

April 2022 Update: Astoria Palawan’s waterpark is currently under maintenance to reopen until further notice.


2. Hue Hotels and Resorts Puerto Princesa

Hue Hotels and Resorts Puerto Princesa is ready to host domestic guests in their tranquil rooms once again. Along with limited staff and operations, this hotel in Palawan also implemented changes in its facilities. Each facility will cater to a limited number of guests at a time. All of the rooms in the hotel are also cleaned daily. Rubbing alcohol, hand sanitizers, and tissues will also be placed conveniently.

Meanwhile, guests must comply with the hotel’s COVID-19 pre-arrival and stay guidelines, temperature checks, temperature monitoring, and social distancing. Social distancing must also be observed in swimming pools, the bar, function rooms, the LA-UD restaurant, and spa and fitness gyms.



3. Lio Beach

Where: El Nido, Palawan

Lio Beach at El Nido has reopened, but only selected accommodations have resumed operations. Currently, they are accepting bookings only for Huni, Casa Kalaw, Balai Adlao, Seda Lio, and Pandan Villas. Other facilities such as Hotel Covo, Casa Kalaw, and Balai Adlao (except Mercury Drugs and ATMs) will remain closed until further notice.

In a Facebook advisory, the place issued its “Be Green and Be Clean” program for the new normal. Under the guidelines, guests must wear face masks and sign travel and health declaration forms upon checking in. The hotel also will be disinfecting its land and air shuttles. At the resort, hand sanitizers and foot baths will be placed at all entry points. Protective barriers will also be placed in the reception area, and there will be social distancing markers for queues and other activities.

In-room dining is encouraged with meals in pre-set boxes. For their guests’ and employees’ safety, housekeeping and food and beverage staff wear personal protective equipment (PPEs). Guests can also request sanitation kits. This resort in Palawan’s other safety measures include implementing a foot control system for public toilets and waste bins. Facilities such as Shops@Lio, gym, Clock In co-working space, and common were also temporarily closed.


4. El Nido Resorts

Where: El Nido, Palawan

Visiting El Nido Resorts is now back on the table! El Nido Resorts is a group of island resorts in Palawan known for its eco-friendly and sustainable tours. Each island within the resort group has also received multiple awards from travel websites and magazines. Currently, Miniloc and Pangulasian Island Resorts are open for bookings. Since the resort is under the same management as Lio Beach, it will also follow the same safety and health protocols.



5. Princesa Garden Island Resort and Spa

Princesa Garden Island Resorts and Spa is a resort where possibilities await you. Along with its close proximity to the Puerto Princesa International Airport, the island resort and spa also offers its guests a wide variety of facilities, amenities, and activities. Upon entry, the facility follows the Department of Tourism’s standard protocols, like thermal temperature, hand disinfection, and footbath. The hotel and the resort also advise physical distancing and cashless transactions.
