While the Philippines battles a COVID-19 surge, Palawan retains its modified general community quarantine status for April. In Puerto Princesa City, a modified quarantine has been implemented in Iwahig Corrections Facility after an employee returning from Metro Manila tested positive for COVID-19. Due to the pandemic, the deadline for the payments for Real Property Tax has also been extended to reduce the taxpayers going to the office.

Iwahig prison under modified quarantine

The Iwahig Corrections Facility in Puerto Princesa City is placed under modified quarantine after an employee’s swabs tested positive for COVID-19 [1]. The infected employee arrived from Manila as he was working for the National Bureau of Corrections according to ICF Chief Supt. Raul Levita. Levita adds that the employee tested negative before his flight to Puerto Princesa City, so it is suspected that he got infected along the way. He also noted that the employee is not on duty regularly.

Due to the modified quarantine, outsiders are not allowed to enter the Montible sub-colony. Only authorized persons from the Puerto Princesa City Water District (PPCWD), who are currently working for the Water System Improvement Project Phase II located in the facility, are allowed inside.

Health News: COVID-19 cases in Palawan at 668

As of March 28, the total cases of COVID-19 in Palawan has reached 668 after more positive swab test results in Palawan were recorded. Out of 668, 622 are recoveries, 39 are active cases, and 7 are deaths. Puerto Princesa City recorded the most number of cases with 213 [3].

April 9 is Araw ng Kagitingan, an occasion when the entire country honors the sacrifice of Filipino war veterans. The day is a regular holiday, which means school and work are suspended for the day [4].
