The planned rollout of COVID-19 booster shots in pharmacies and private clinics by the end of January has been anticipated by Palawan residents.

This plan of action positively impacts the public since it allows more options that are made for the convenience and easy accessibility of booster vaccines for the masses.

Robinson’s Supermarket’s Assistant Store Manager, Ms. Precy S. Arcansalin, expressed her thoughts that she is glad to welcome this move. The government will inoculate more people; they can have more convenient options to avail themselves of their booster shots in malls and health centers. Now, Palawan residents can easily access their booster shots through local pharmacies, as she said in an interview from a local Palawan news source. [1]

The pilot implementation of booster shots in pharmacies or as the government would call the “Resbakuna sa Botika” (Vaccine in Pharmacies) drive will initially be launched through seven pharmacies and private clinics in the National Capital Region (NCR) on January 21. The vaccine booster shots through pilot pharmacies are Mercury Drug, Watson’s, The Generics Pharmacy, Generika Drug Store, Southstar Drug, QualiMed, and Healthway, was announced by vaccine czar Carlito Galvez Jr. [2]

On another national scope, Karlo Nograles also announced this good news of further escalation and a broader range of dissemination of the vaccine against COVID-19 in a virtual press conference.

Nograles also emphasized that walk-ins are not accepted at the seven pharmacies, as mentioned earlier. The booster shots are given free, and interested locals will only need to pre-register.

After this pilot run, the same booster shot rollouts through pharmacies in other local areas in the country will be further discussed and planned out.

Adults ages 18 and above classified under priority groups A1 to A5 are eligible for booster shots in localized pharmacies. Galvez said in an interview that this move is a step forward to give the authority and the responsibility of vaccine inoculation from the national government down to the local government units or LGUs and private sectors. It is also one of the methods to prepare for the commercialization of the vaccine soon. [3]

‘Getting a booster shot guarantees added protection’, vaccine experts say

Experts urge Filipinos to get their booster shots since they have found out that the booster vaccine can help prevent severe infections due to the coronavirus.

A government vaccine expert panel reported that most severely ill COVID-19 patients are either unvaccinated or have not yet been vaccinated with a booster shot. [4] These findings further show the disparity between acute and mild infection.

The vaccine experts’ panel also recommended that the interval between the primary vaccine doses and the booster shot be shortened to help fight the continuous spread of the highly transmissible Omicron variant.
