Teachers and students are preparing for the opening of classes this August 22. The Department of Education (DepEd)—Palawan Schools Division is almost done with the preparations as everyone welcomes the resumption of physical, face-to-face learning.

The resumption of face-to-face classes in schools in Palawan will push through this August, regardless of alert level classifications imposed in different areas in the country.

DepEd spokesman Michael Poa says that DepEd still coordinates with the authorized agencies and respective local government units and works with them to ensure safety for the students, teachers, and everyone involved in resuming physical classes.

DepEd has also begun to launch the annual Brigada Eskwela, where everyone initiated their own ways of cleaning up and preparing the classrooms for the opening of classes.

Almost 100% of the schools and universities in Palawan are ready after complying with the necessary requirement and having been validated by the Schools Safety Assessment Tool (SSAT) by DepEd, as DepEd Palawan Officer-in-Charge Arnaldo Ventura said. He also added that preparations are still ongoing, along with minor activities to support the opening of classes.

These preparations include the physical facilities preparation such as classrooms and faculty rooms, preparation of learning materials for the students, textbooks, modules, and the health and safety protocols to be established and implemented for the students and teachers.

Handwashing facilities, a socially distanced seating arrangement, and signage posts around the school vicinity are some of the minimum health requirements implemented.

The DepEd Palawan OIC added that face masks and alcohol will be duly provided. Since this will not be presumptively sustained throughout the school year, that is where the cooperation of the parents and stakeholder partnerships comes in.

Currently, Ventura said that they are still strengthening the vaccination campaign since some teachers have expressed their worries about this matter due to some refusing to avail their vaccines. Nurses and doctors are also working on checking up and monitoring teachers who still haven’t had their vaccines.
