Pampanga, known as the Culinary Capital of the Philippines, has several restaurants and eateries that will satisfy your cravings. Aside from local Pampangeño dishes, you also get to taste dishes that fuse with other types of cuisine worldwide. Whether you want Asian, American, European, or just your homegrown Filipino food, Pampanga stands to be the ultimate food trip destination.

If you’re finding it hard to choose what goes in your Pampanga food trip itinerary, we’ll help you narrow down your choices to these seven restaurants in Angeles, Pampanga!


1. Calle Lutong Pampanga

Calle Lutong Pampanga showcases authentic Kapampangan cuisine and delicacies that fit your budget. It is open from 6:00 AM to 10:00 PM and serves breakfast, lunch, merienda (afternoon snack), and dinner.

They have your classic ‘silog’ (fried rice and egg) meals for breakfast, while for lunch, merienda, and dinner, they indulge us with all-Filipino food choices on the menu cooked the Kapampangan way. So, expect adobo (chicken or pork stewed in vinegar, garlic, soy sauce, bay leaves, and peppercorns), kare-kare (a peanut-based stew of oxtail, tripe, meat, and vegetables), kaldereta (pork, goat, beef or chicken, and stewed in tomatoes), lechon kawali (crispy deep-fried pork belly), bulalo (beef soup containing shank with bone marrow), mami (noodle soup), dinuguan (pork blood stew), pansit (noodles), and arozcaldo (Filipino congee).

Of course, Calle Lutong Pampanga wouldn’t miss the all-original Kapampangan sisig (made from parts of pig head and liver, seasoned with calamansi and chili peppers) from its menu, and the Kapampangan delicacy kilayin (minced pork lungs, chopped pork meat, and liver marinated and cooked in vinegar and spices). Also packed and branded by the restaurant are the tabang talangka (crab fat) in a bottle and plastic of chicharon or pitityan (pork rinds) to enjoy for take-out or pasalubong (souvenir).

It’s not your regular favorite breakfast treat but a crepe with a twist of flavors in its stuffing. Pancake ni Juan is an original food concept brought to life by a Chinese and Filipina couple. This eating place near Clark Freeport, about 28 minutes away, serves four pancake options which you can pair with any of their five freshly brewed flavored tea. The mouthwatering pancake menus are beef in oyster sauce with cheese, pork floss with nori, tuna with onion, and chicken teriyaki. For dessert, Pancake ni Juan has its version of the classic Pinoy merienda, banana turon, an ube turon, and two types of dessert pancakes.

Pancake ni Juan’s fusion food options may be foreign to some of us, but it relates to every “Juan” because the prices of its products are very affordable: it ranges from PhP15 up to PhP75.


3. The Orange Bucket

The Orange Bucket has its new branch in Angeles City and is an offshoot of its owner’s other restaurant —The Crowing Chicken. Its bestseller is the “Seafood in a Bucket”, a mix of shrimps, mussels, crabs, and vegetables, boiled in their Cajun-style blend of spices, tossed with their signature seasoning, and served in a bag inside an “orange bucket.” You can also choose the level of spiciness depending on how hot you can handle it.

Seafood is best eaten with bare hands, but if you don’t want to get your hands dirty, they can provide plastic gloves as well as plastic bibs. Other than seafood, Orange Bucket also serves other food like chicken, baby back ribs, soups, and salads.

The restaurant is open daily from 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM.


4. Aero Tavern

True to its tagline, “Come and taste the world,” Aero Tavern combines all of the best international savories under one roof. It has appetizers, soups and salads, entrées, pasta dishes, flatbreads, desserts, and all-day breakfast choices. It also has a good selection of drinks, alcoholic beverages, and caffeinated drinks.

The place has an industrial modern rustic design with wooden seats and tables. What’s more, its warm lighting invites you to indulge in your food. Of course, it’s best to bring your friends or family to share the experience with you. Aero Town is open daily from 11:00 AM to 1:00 AM.



5. Frida Taqueria y Cantina

Frida Taqueria y Cantina serves authentic Mexican food—who knows; even Frida might have even loved these!

Frida Taqueria y Cantina’s name took inspiration from Frida Kahlo, a Mexican artist and political activist who later became a feminist icon. The place loudly speaks of its inspiration with all the mural paintings of Kahlo’s portraits and the Latin-American ambiance of the restaurant’s fixtures and designs. It serves authentic Mexican food, more than just your ordinary nachos, tacos, and burritos food line-up.

For appetizers, they have a choice of pork, beef, or chicken quesadilla and elotes (grilled sweet corn) with crema (Mexican sour cream), lime-chili salt, and queso cotija (Mexican dry grated cheese). For their main dishes, the cumin-coriander crusted hanging tender steak with sweet potato hash and chimichurri (marinade), and their best seller Pollo Ala Plancha, which is a pan-grilled 1/2 boneless chicken rubbed with special Frida's spice mix, served with Mexican rice, slaw, and pickles. Your Mexican food trip in Frida Taqueria y Cantina wouldn’t be complete, of course, without trying their imported Mexican sodas and specialty cocktails.

6. Saiko-No Ramen House

Eat ramen all you want with the choice of Shio or Shoyu Ramen at Saiko-No Ramen House.

Saiko-No Ramen House has a wide range of traditional Japanese lunches and dinners. Other than ramen (Japanese meat or fish noodle soup), it serves sushi, maki (rolled sushi), tempura, and don buri (rice bowl), among others.

When it opened in September 2017, it only served Japanese cuisine, but as Kapampangans grew fond of Korean food, the restaurant also started serving Korean dishes like samgyeopsal (grilled pork belly). They also introduced various unlimited deals. You have a choice of unlimited tempura, unlimited ramen, and unlimited samgyeopsal for only PhP299 each, which is quite reasonable to satisfy any food lover who has a big appetite.

7. Hachiryu Ramen 八龍 ラメン

Hachiryu Ramen’s specialty, as the name suggests, is their ramen. Tonkatsu is ramen made from pork bone marrow soup and authentic Japanese ramen noodles. You can choose from many different tonkatsu-based ramens, each with its unique tastes and flavors: dragon Ramen, black dragon ramen, red dragon ramen, and white dragon ramen.

But if you are not up to the challenge of finishing a whole bowl of hot Japanese noodles, Hachiryu Ramen has other Japanese dishes. They have affordable set meals that not only fit your budget and but will also satisfy your Japanese food cravings.
