The Christmas season in Batangas will be extra bright for Batangueños: the “Pailaw sa Taal” finally returns after being canceled in 2020 due to the pandemic. This year, the Christmas holiday annual tradition returns for a more dazzling display of Christmas lights perfect for that Instagrammable holiday photos. The Christmas light show was initially lit on November 7 as a dry run, but its official opening to the public has yet to be announced.

What makes the “Pailaw sa Taal” a memorable holiday tradition in Batangas is because various colorful Christmas lights cover the entirety of Taal Park from 6:00 AM to 11:00 PM. Christmas decorations vary per year, so there’s always something new to look forward to. This year, holiday decorations in the light show include a Christmas tree, a tunnel of jellyfish-like lights, and neon hoops covering various trees. Filipino Christmas wouldn’t be complete without food available from various street food stalls in the plaza. In addition, guests can do their Christmas shopping in the outdoor tiangge filled with unique items and garment products.

Currently, Batangas is under Alert Level 2 until November 30. With this alert level, intra and interzonal travels will be allowed as determined by the LGU. Tourist attractions like public gardens, parks, plazas, and the like are allowed to operate. President Duterte announced that face shields would not be required anymore in areas under low alert levels. However, wearing a face mask is still applicable. Tourists and locals must also practice proper social distancing. It means the Christmas season in the Philippines is less restrictive this year.

Christmas in the Philippines is indeed the most magical time of the year! Batangas’ festive tradition proves it!
